Limiting the scope of your webcam will help save on compression bandwidth, and remove some of the "dead space" a traditional 4:3 or 16:9 boxed webcam has, all the while still keeping your beautiful face on the screen to strengthen the relationship between you and your viewers.
This article will explain how to add a mask filter to both OBS and SLOBS.
Step #1
Before adding a mask filter, you will need to have the shape(s) you want to add, which can easily be created (using a program like GIMP, for example) or found online. Below are two examples from a Google search (obs mask filter > images).
Select a shape you want, and save it to your PC. Be sure your image is saved in a folder on your PC that you can easily remember.
Step #2
Make sure your webcam or camera is added as a source. Right-click on the source and select FILTERS towards the bottom of the drop-down menu. A pop-up window will appear. Click on the bottom + sign in to add an Effect Filter.
Select the IMAGE/MASK BLEND from the drop-down window to add your image mask filter. Give it a name, then proceed to the next window.
Step #3
Change the TYPE to Alpha Mask (Color Channel).
Browse your PC for the appropriate files you want, and add it to the PATH.
Adjust the COLOR and OPACITY, if needed, then click Close.
Step #4
Move the now-filtered webcam source to your preferred placement on your overlay, and you're all set!
